Staphylococci of Medical Importance

Staphylococcus aureus is the main species that is medically important because this species causes secondary infection of insect bites, ulcers, burns, wounds and skin disorders. Conjunctivitis of newborn.This species with low invasiveness is responsible for minor skin infections like boils, styes, and impetigo. Group II Staphylococcus cause the the scalded skin syndrome because of toxin exfoliatin. In woman, toxic shock syndrome is observed because of colonization of S. aureus in vagina. In osteomyletis, the terminal vessel of the metaphysis of long bones is the primary focus of staphylococcal growth that ultimately leads to the necrosis of bone and schornic suppuration. Staphylococcus aureus is also involved in bacteremia of major organ and leading it to the clinical condition like endocarditis, empyema, meningitis, mastitis, pneumonia, or sepsis with suppuration in any organ.
