A word "Holi" is derived from the name of demoness "Holika", sister of the demon "Hiranyakasyap". According to Hindu mythology, "Holika" was blessed that she remain unharmed by fire, but when she tried to burn "Prahalad", son of Hiranyakasyap by hold the boy in fire, she burnt herself and boy was released safely. It was an answer to the Prahalad's holy prayer to the Lord "Vishnu". This very day is celebrated as the victory of true devotion over cruelty.
This day is celebrated by playing with colours and water among friends, families and neighbor in very musical environment, and personally, I feel that this is right moment to make new Acquaintances and strengthening the old ones, It is advisable and allowed to play with interested people but negative aspect of this festival is uprising before a week of this “Holi” day. It is really disgusting to hit water filled balloon to school-going girl or a women out for office. Females are not only victims, to some extent male who were out in the street with similar purpose has to face the problem.
Regardless of these shameful practices, it is still one of my favorite festivals as it revive the soul, allowing us to know the person of other communities, minimizing the discrimination among various caste system. As water wet all the person without separating their races, beliefs and a dye color everybody without differentiating the skin color.
Happy Holi.
